Description
This is the gem of the firing. The pot was made on the potter’s wheel but a proportionally large amount of time was spent attaching the feet, and shaping the handles. Shipiao is the one pot shape that requires the most precision and concentration of the pots I make. The glaze is a technical feat, very hard to achieve. The pot was glaze fired twice, to develop the oilspots. Hence the price.
Photos are really difficult to capture in a way that does justice to this pot. It looks less spotted and darker than in it is in reality. In Taiwan, one is often handed a torchlight to really exaimne tenmoku pieces…. these photos were taken in indirect daylight. Just know that this is a piece you will want to examine in all sources of light, being lost in details.
This pot pours excellently!
