I am really proud to share my latest creations with you. Today’s shop restock is unusually large – the result of two firings, one electric and the other gas.
There are a handful of real gems here, by which I mean technically great teapots with exceptionally good glaze results. After a streak of mishaps in the gas kiln, I experienced a breakthrough. In this, pottery mirrors life, eh? I realised that by glaze-firing my regular tenmoku glaze twice, the coveted oilspot effect occurs. This glaze is gorgeous and utterly impossible for me to capture on camera. You will just have to see it in real life. Other personal favourites include the flamelicked buckwheat glaze, and the baby-blue ju-ka pots.
The electric kiln has yielded some unapologetically glossy, luscious “fake celadon” colours. Fake celadon refers to a glaze that looks like celadon but was fired in an oxydised atmosphere. There are two tones available, a greyish/bluish green and olive green. Both go well with transparent-glazed porcelain. These fake celadon glazes look great on impressed or carved surfaces, and I have had fun with some homemade plaster molds made from a.o. Taiwanese roof tiles. The idea behind this new series is that you can mix and match, and build up a collection/set over time. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions regarding this.
