I am so happy to share with you the most recent results from my gas kiln. You may have noticed my preference for kiln mutation glazes, and this time there are some sweet carbontrap shino teapots, and even a pink shino teapot. Also some flashing copper-red pieces. In this production cycle I revisited the old “Chinaware” series as well (more to come in next firing). As always, I appreciate your comments and reactions. Also, if the timing of the update doesn’t suit you (is America awake?), don’t hesitate to let me know. Have a great day out there.
Seasons greetings! A little shop restock has gone up with lots of pictures to peruse. With my sincere, best wishes for the new year. Click to go to Shop
Hello everyone! I have just dropped a handful of new pots in my shop. This will probably be the last update before the holiday season, so I thought I would let everyone know that there is still a decent selection in the shop if you are thinking of gifting someone – or “just” yourself – a pot this year. All the best to all.
I am really proud to share my latest creations with you. Today’s shop restock is unusually large – the result of two firings, one electric and the other gas.
There are a handful of real gems here, by which I mean technically great teapots with exceptionally good glaze results. After a streak of mishaps in the gas kiln, I experienced a breakthrough. In this, pottery mirrors life, eh? I realised that by glaze-firing my regular tenmoku glaze twice, the coveted oilspot effect occurs. This glaze is gorgeous and utterly impossible for me to capture on camera. You will just have to see it in real life. Other personal favourites include the flamelicked buckwheat glaze, and the baby-blue ju-ka pots.
The electric kiln has yielded some unapologetically glossy, luscious “fake celadon” colours. Fake celadon refers to a glaze that looks like celadon but was fired in an oxydised atmosphere. There are two tones available, a greyish/bluish green and olive green. Both go well with transparent-glazed porcelain. These fake celadon glazes look great on impressed or carved surfaces, and I have had fun with some homemade plaster molds made from a.o. Taiwanese roof tiles. The idea behind this new series is that you can mix and match, and build up a collection/set over time. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions regarding this.
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks for reading.
It has been more than half a year since my last shop update. In the meantime, I have been busy moving house, setting up the new studio, and making seemingly endless adjustments to the firing shed… It has been quite a journey. I have seen my share of mishaps and have learned a lot, perhaps most succintly why potters name kilns after the places they live. Though I have the same two kilns as always (gas and electric), simply moving them to a new location made a big difference in terms of firing results. Out of the city basement, I am now working in the daylight in my garden studio, and perhaps that influences the work, too. So, endless learning ahead, and that’s fine with me – to some extent, that’s even the point.
Now I am ready to show you some new work. Thank you for reading and hope you enjoy browsing.
I am back for a short remark (still not quite working at normal pace). Some of you have already expressed an interest in the new pieces published on IG, and I know it is frustrating to keep refreshing the screen to see if the pieces are up for sale yet or not. So instead of the usual “dump completed” email, here is an alert to say the shop will be updated tonight at 19h00 Belgian time.
I dropped a few new pots in the webshop just now. This will be the last regular update for a while, as I am entering a busy period, moving house and helping my twins settle into their gap year activities. Don’t hesitate to reach out, as always, as I will still be working on my pottery, just much much slower than usual! Wishing everyone a great summer. Thanks for reading.
In the two months since my last update, I have made liberal use of my artistic license; The urge to create is compelling and sometimes overwhelming. One can get lost in wrong-footed departures. Thankfully some ideas are just fleeting follies, while others slowly spread their roots and resurface from time to time. In this update, there are classic bestsellers like nuka and tenmoku teapots, as well as new (and re-hashed) whimsical work. As always, comments are welcome (you can also leave reviews after your purchase, to help others understand the work). Thanks for browsing. Enjoy spring.
The new webshop is stocked and has opened its “doors”. Please take a look, and do reach out if something needs fixing, as it is all very new still. Thanks for subscribing!
